British Music - what it means - from the book 'How To Be British'

You gotta have a good understanding of the roots and success of British bands and black culture especially. The British have been in love with Reggae, Ska and Soul, since the 1950's.

If you were fortunate enough to grow up in Kensington, as I have been, you have the joys of having known some serious 'blues' clubs in the locale. I once visited and found myself propped up by the smoke alone. In fact I danced with it Hard to name a specific club as they seem to change location often. The clubs in the UK have always been heavy on rock and mainstream but special attention is paid to heavier reggae. I suppose Acid/mash-ups and the hip-hop thing will become the future of music for many. As you mellow though, you return to the better and finer things. We often have a fondest for choral music, classical, opera and Jazz too. Ronnie Scotts club is an old favourite haunt of hams and buffs everywhere.

Northern Soul produced some amazing dancing (do discover this for yourself on Youtube) One of my favourite artists was Bobby Womack. A friend at the Daily Mail (bless her) introduced me. Bobby's 'Harrie Hippy' will prove too much for those who ever knew a sweet brother.

Reggae produced many greats, including my own favourite, Tuff Lion, discovered recently (amazing) Roots reggae, Lovers Rock, Disco and Soul never die, someone actually said to me once 'she should die like disco' and I felt alarmed, I love disco and I always will.
